iJailBreak 0.6 Released: Supports 1.1.4 on all iPhones and iPod Touches

March 15, 2008 | Posted by Ben, co-developer

We've just released iJailBreak 0.6 (referenced to before as 0.5.5). This version provides 1.1.4 support for all iPhones and iPod Touches, and, as before, allows you to freely enable the $20 iPhone apps. It also adds com.apple.afc2 support, allowing for easy manipulation of the filesystem.

As always, iJailBreak is released under the GNU General Public License version 2, and can be downloaded by choosing Check For Updates in the iJailBreak Menu Bar, or at our Google Code (see below)

Enjoy!

UPDATE: We are currently having trouble with Google Code, so please download iJailBreak from here.

UPDATE 2: If you are having "Spamming AT" errors on your iPod touch, download the NVRAM Fixer from here.

iJailBreak 0.5.5, iJailBreak Mobile 2.0 Coming Soon!

March 13, 2008 | Posted by Ben, co-developer

We're very close to releasing iJailBreak 0.5.5 and iJailBreak Mobile 2.0. They're going to have some pretty neat features, and uses dev-team support software instead of Zibri's, which was apparently stolen from the dev-team. More as we come closer to release!

iJailBreak 0.5.4 Released: 1.1.4, 8GB iPod touch compatibility

February 29, 2008 | Posted by AriX, co-13-year-old developer

Thanks to Zibri, we've just released verion 0.5.4, which has compatibility with 1.1.4 and the 8GB iPod touch. It doesn't yet install the App Pack, that will come when other touches are supported (which will hopefully be soon). You can download it at our Google Code page. Please note that this new version of iJailBreak will downgrade your bootloader to 3.9 from 4.6.

Tiger should now be supported in this release, however that has not been tested. If you have had a good experience using Tiger, please contact us :)

UPDATE: You can be running 1.1.4 to use iJailBreak 0.5.4!

UPDATE 2: iPod Touches jailbroken appear to be having issues syncing with iTunes, therefore we don't recommend jailbreaking them. A version for all iPod Touches should be out soon.

Firmware 1.1.4 Support Coming Soon! DO NOT UPGRADE NOW.

February 26, 2008 | Posted by Ben, co-developer

As I'm sure you already know, Apple has released firmware versions 1.1.4. It appears that most of the process we currently use no longer works properly. We will have a release in 2 to 3 days that is compatible with 1.1.4 for iPhone and iPod Touch. In the mean time, do not upgrade your device.

Thanks!

iJailBreak 0.5.3 Released: Unlock works with all iPhones, PowerPC Compatibility Re-ensured

February 13, 2008 | Posted by Ben, co-13-year-old developer

We've just uploaded iJailBreak 0.5.3 to our Google Code. This version brings a few features from the new ZiPhone version released a short bit ago.

First, the unlock now works on all iPhones - regardless of whether you bought it this afternoon or on June 29. Second, we got some conflicing reports from our PowerPC users regarding iJailBreak working - some said it worked, others said it didn't. This update has re-ensured PowerPC compatibility for those running Tiger or Leopard. If you're running any other version of Mac OS X, iJailBreak will not work.

IMPORTANT: this release does not include iPod Touch support. We're still working on that.

It will be pushed as an update in the next few hours to our current install base, but if you'd rather use iJailBreak 0.5.3 now, you can download it here. Enjoy!

UPDATE: Intel/PPC Tiger systems don't work with 0.5.3 anymore. We'll attempt a fix soon.

iJailBreak 0.5.2 Released: libSystem.B.dylib Errors Fixed

February 13, 2008 | Posted by Ben, co-13-year-old developer

We've just released iJailBreak 0.5.2 which fixes a number of bugs, including the libSystem.B.dylib errors a number of you have been having. This release ensures PowerPC compatibility on both Tiger and Leopard.

You can download it from Google Code now. Enjoy!

IMPORTANT: There's still no iPod Touch compatibility - expect it relatively soon.

iJailBreak 0.5.1 Released

February 12, 2008 | Posted by AriX, 13-year-old developer

We've just released iJailBreak 0.5.1, which is now availible at the Google Code page. This is just like the previous release, with some bug fixes and expanded compatibility.

IMPORTANT: There is still no iPod touch compatibility, however that should be expected soon.

By the way, this SHOULD fix some segmentation fault errors as well as add PPC compatibility... However, I have not tested it on PPC as of yet.

P.S. We now have an RSS feed! You can click the RSS button in your browser, or you can find it at http://ijailbreak.com/iJailBreakNews.xml.

iJailBreak 0.5 Released!

February 12, 2008 | Posted by AriX, 13-year-old developer

iJailBreak 0.5 has been released, and is available for download on the Google Code page. It can jailbreak an iPhone directly from 1.1.3, without any soft-upgrade bugs. This is currently iPhone only, however you can expect a version for iPod touches soon. It's basically a visual frontend for ZiPhone, with a couple of extra features such as fixing the Bus error bug on Macs, and rebooting your iPod/iPhone automatically so you don't have to fiddle with it.

For this to work, we recommend that your iPhone be running a non-jailbroken 1.1.3. IMPORTANT: The unlock ONLY works for bootloader 4.6. When in doubt, don't use the unlock ;) The actual jailbreaking process will take about 1 minute. If you have an iPhone and would like to unlock and "hactivate" as well (you will get the option when you start the jailbreak, that will take another 2 1/2 minutes.

Coming soon: A feature to upgrade soft-updated (iJailBreakMobile'd) phones to a true jailbreak!

UPDATE: We are currently having some problems on some Macs with segmentation fault errors. If this happens, please email us with your system information. Thanks!

iJailBreak 0.5 To Be Released Soon

February 11, 2008 | Posted by AriX, 13-year-old developer

Thanks to the hard work of Zibree, geohot, and (maybe) the iPhoneDevTeam, a new utility called ZiPhone has been released. This supports jailbreaking/activating/unlocking iPhones and iPod touches without being on 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 first (a "true" jailbreak).

For those of you who don't love the commandline, I will soon release iJailBreak 0.5 as a simple frontend to ZiPhone.

iJailBreak Desktop 0.4.x Frozen Indefinitely as it NO LONGER WORKS

February 5, 2008 | Posted by Ben, co-13-year-old developer

Due to the removal of the 1.1.3 Soft Upgrade package in Installer.app, we're indefinitely freezing iJailBreak Desktop branch 0.4.x.

This is out of our control, and we apologize. We now recommend using iJailBreakMobile 1.0 for all of your jailbreaking needs.

AriX at iJailBreak.com restored; certain emails should be resent!

January 30, 2008 | Posted by Ben, co-13-year-old developer

Hi everyone. Just wanted to quickly note that if you sent an email to arix at ijailbreak.com after 3:15 PM Eastern yesterday and before 11:58 AM Eastern this morning, please resend them. Unfortunately we've been having issues with our mail server recently, but were able to get everything working today. Thanks!

Unfortunately we haven't been able to ship the iPod Touch 1.1.2-upgrade AppPack patch, but would like to point you to the repository at ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml which has the necessary iPhone 1.1.3 apps.

iJailBreak Downtime is Over

January 29, 2008 | Posted by Ben, co-13-year-old developer

As some of you know, iJailBreak.com (and thus iJailBreakMobile) servers were down from about 3:30 PM Eastern to 7:30 PM Eastern. Everything got overloaded from all of the downloads and visits. We moved to a new, better server as soon as we could, but the downtime still amounted to roughly 4 hours. Sincerest apologies! Everything is back up.

Also, apologies for not being able to push the fix allowing users upgraded from 1.1.2 to install the iPhone apps. That'll be sent tomorrow.

iJailBreakMobile 1.0 Released!

January 28, 2008 | Posted by Ben, co-13-year-old developer

AriX and I are VERY pleased to announce the immediate availability of iJailBreakMobile 1.0, a new branch of the wildly-successful iJailBreak utility.

iJailBreakMobile allows iPod Touches and iPhones to be automatically upgraded to, and jailbreak on 1.1.3 through Installer.app.

The great thing about iJailBreakMobile is that it does not require the use of a computer, so regardless of what operating system of architecture your computer may be running on, iJailBreakMobile will work just fine. As such, this fixes the File Not Found error and PowerPC compatibility issues.

You must start on a jailbroken installation of 1.1.1 or 1.1.2. To downgrade from 1.1.3 to 1.1.1, please visit www.ijailbreak.com/downgrade113. To downgrade from 1.1.2 to 1.1.1, please visit www.ijailbreak.com/downgrade112. iPod Touch owners need only follow page 1 and then visit JailbreakMe.com to jailbreak. iPhone owners should do the first and second pages (which includes jailbreaking). At this point, your device is ready to use iJailBreak.

To jailbreak, go into Installer.app, tap sources at the bottom right, then Edit at the top right, then Add at the top left, and add ijailbreak.com/repo.plist. Then, under the iJailBreakMobile category, choose the right upgrade package for you - if you're on a jailbroken 1.1.1, choose 1.1.1; if you're on a jailbroken 1.1.2, choose 1.1.2. The installation should take about 45 minutes, depending on your Internet connection. Once done, the device will try to reboot automatically. If you see that it's stuck with just the "spinning cog" on the screen, it's safe to manually reboot the device, at which point you'll enter into 1.1.3.

NOTE: This will not remove, break, or mess with iPhone activation or unlocks. Everything should work as before.

Also in the iJailBreakMobile category is "Remove 1.1.3 Jailbreak Data" (only for use with devices who upgraded from 1.1.1)), "iPod Touch Software Upgrade" (free way to install the iPhone apps on the iPod Touch), and the "Fix Mail Passwords" package, which will patch Mail.app for those with it installed and fix the issue with it remembering passwords (this issue also exists within the Apple-distributed version).

For those who are wondering, the 1.1.1 jailbreak is based on the Nate True method while the 1.1.2 jailbreak is based on the iPhone Dev Team method. As such, iJailBreakMobile is released under the GNU General Public License version 2.

Enjoy!

UPDATE: There are apparently some problems with installing iPhone apps if you are upgrading from 1.1.2, where the Terminal asks you for a password. A fix will be out tomorrow! By the way, if you're getting syntax errors related to a smiley face, refresh your sources, then uninstall iJailBreak, reinstall, and start over :( Sorry for the inconvenience!

How to fix Mail.app password issue

January 27, 2008 | Posted by Ben, co-13-year-old developer

A problem with Mail.app's password saving has been discovered and we thought we'd alert you, as well as provide instructions on how to fix it.

First, go into Installer.app, tap Sources, then Edit, then Add, and add sleepers.net/iphonerepo as a source. Then, install the Mail.app fix under the Tweaks (1.1.3) category.

Note that this is also an issue in the Apple-distributed version. (Thanks to BigBoss for the fix!)

iJailBreak 0.4.1 Released

January 26, 2008 | Posted by Ben, co-13-year-old developer

iJailBreak 0.4.1 has been released and is available for download here. This includes many, many bug fixes and includes support for Mac OS X Tiger.

It has been pushed to current iJailBreak users as an update, and if you have not jailbroken yet, it's recommended you upgrade before jailbreaking.

While we were able to include Tiger support, unfortunately PowerPC support has not been worked out yet. We've got a number of testers lined up and we'll try to get it working ASAP.

iJailBreak 0.4 FIXED

January 26, 2008 | Posted by Ben, co-13-year-old developer

The "File Not Found" error has been fixed. If you've already updated to 0.4, you'll need to re-download from here. If you haven't already upgraded to 0.4, if you update via Sparkle now you'll get the right files.

NOTE: NO MODIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN TO YOUR DEVICE HAVE BEEN MADE! It is safe to try and jailbreak using this new version, even if you tried before.

Sorry!

UPDATE: We're getting word that now iJailBreak only works on Leopard (but everyone who's tried it on Leopard says it works great). It's being worked on, non-Leopard users.

iJailBreak 0.4 for iPod Touch and iPhone Released, Supports Firmware 1.1.3

January 26, 2008 | Posted by Ben, co-13-year-old developer

AriX and I are pleased to announce the immediate availability of iJailBreak 0.4 for iPod Touch and iPhone, which supports the new 1.1.3 firmware.

It is a Universal Mac OS X application, and as before, is available under the GNU General Public License version 2. You can download it here.

Note: you need to be running a jailbroken 1.1.1 or 1.1.2. To jailbreak to 1.1.1 from 1.1.2, visit iJailBreak.com/downgrade112, and to downgrade to 1.1.1 from 1.1.3, visit iJailBreak.com/downgrade113. If you are downgrading from 1.1.3 and are using an iPhone, do the first two pages of the guide, and if you are using an iPod Touch, just do the first page of the guide and jailbreak via JailbreakMe.com.

More information is available in our press release, which can be downloaded in PDF format here. Enjoy!

Hey everyone! As you may or may not know, a 1.1.3 jailbreak hs just been released. At the moment, it only works with Windows, and it only works with iPhones. Just so you know, I'm working on a method that works on Macs and iPod touches :) You can look out for that in a day or two!

UPDATE: I have just found out that the iPod touch vfdecrypt code has not yet been found, so it could be a little while. However, I assure you that once it is found I'll work on it :).

1.1.2 Hack Released!

November 11th, 2007 | Posted by AriX, 13-year-old developer

Hey everyone, just a little 1.1.2 update. I was almost done the finishing touches of 0.4 with 1.1.2 compatibility, but the iPhone dev team came out with their app a few minutes (literally) before I was going to release mine. I tried it, and it has a couple extra features, so I don't really see the point in releasing 0.4 right now. You can find that at http://conceitedsoftware.com/iphone/site/112jb.html. Hopefully I'll get 0.4 out for 1.1.3 or whatever :) In the meantime, have fun with your jailbroken 1.1.2 iPod Touch or iPhone!
