Spotify is a great music service: you can listen to thousands of songs on your computer and on the go with the Premium version. In my opinion, the last one is a little bit too expensive – in the UK, the service costs 9.99 GBP (that’s $16).
Yes, you can try Spotify Premium for free for a month if you give your credit card or PayPal details; but yes, you get hooked after your trial ends (believe me, I’m loving it). Why? It may be due to the ease with which you can access that amazing music library wherever you are. For me, there is no other app that compares.
If you are worried about giving your bank account details and forgetting to cancel your free trial, Spotify enables you try its service for 48 hours when you download the app on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch and log in with your Facebook details. No strings attached: once your 48-hour trial ends the app becomes useless.
What if I tell you there’s a way to extend that free trial on your device with a simple trick? Before I proceed, this is just a temporary solution and it should not be considered as a way to avoid paying for Spotify Premium.
With that said, this is how it works:
- Download Spotify Premium on your iOS device.
- Log in with your Facebook account to start your free 48-hour trial. After you do that you will notice a timer at the top of the screen with the remaining of your trial.
- Go to the Settings app.
- In General, select Date & Time.
- Turn off “Set Automatically”.
- Set Date & Time to 2008.
- Open Spotify and you’ll notice you now have around 1800 days of free trial.
That’s it. I’ve done it and I have to warn you, this could affect some of the functions of your iDevice. But don’t panic, you can reset the Date & Time and everything will be back to normal. This little trick gave me two more days of Spotify – that’s why I say this is just a temporary solution.
What do you think? Did you find it useful? Let me know in the comment section below.

In iOS7, you cant just change the year like in iOS6 :( Still works though even if you do have to scroll back through the days for a while…

This is only valid untill the date is changed. Once you roll back to current time spotify will show the utiilised time.
You cannot use facebook, twitter, instagram, and many other app with this settings. It’s not a workaround, It’s bullshit.
