As soon as the iOS 7 Untethered Jailbreak was released for all iOS devices one thing that came to my mind immediately was I wonder how long it will take for someone to crack Apple’s Biometric Kit (Touch ID). And it looks like we already have the answer.
The developer of Jailbreak tweaks such as SBRotator, CallBar, and others has figured out a way to take advantage of what Apple says is a feature with a “very high level of security” and create a tweak that prompts users to verify his or her identity utilizing TouchID before launching protected apps.
The dialogue box the pops up before the user can launch that app functions much like how Apple uses the feature to let users unlock the iPhone and make App Store purchases.
It is without a doubt an exciting development and it should only be a matter of time until we see more tweaks popping up which take advantage of TouchID. At the same time, however, it is also kind of a scary thought when you take security into consideration. With jailbreak developers having access to Touch ID, it would also mean anyone with malicious intend could potentially have access to your fingerprints assuming you install their software.
