Sometimes with new software, comes the fear of leaving older hardware behind. Apple recently announced iOS 8 and Mac OS X 10.10 with new features that utilize newer hardware. Some older iOS devices and Macs will no longer support the new software. To make things easier for you, we’ve listed iOS devices that are compatible with iOS 8 and Macs compatible with OS X Yosemite.
- iPhone 4S
- iPhone 5/5s/5c
- iPad 2, 3rd/4th gen, Air, mini, mini with Retina
- iPod Touch 5th gen
That’s all the iDevices that support iOS 8. The iPhone 4 and older devices will not support the latest version of iOS. Apple’s iPhone 4 will only be able to run iOS 7.1, anything later than that can’t be handled by the ageing A4 chip. The original iPad and the 3rd, 4th gen iPod Touch will also be not able to run iOS 8. If you have any of these devices and don’t want to be left behind, it’s time to upgrade.
Here’s the list of devices that can run the latest OS X 10.10 Yosemite.
- iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
- MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
- MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
- Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
- Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
- Xserve (Early 2009)
If your MacBook, iMac, Mac Pro or Xserve is not in the above list, then you cannot install OS X 10.10. Once again, it’s time to upgrade.
iOS 8 and OS X 10.10 Yosemite bring a lot of new features to the table and you wouldn’t want to miss them.

I’ll try typing this again without adding a link. What you posted was your CPU. Your chipset is the collection of components that make up your motherboard. That said, there’s a great program called AIDA64 Extreme that will identify your components in Windows. Download it, and write down all your info. What you’ll really need to pay attention to is your graphics and your WIFi card. Other things that are important are BIOS settings. You will need VT enabled, RAID disabled, and if your PC is UEFI, it needs to be set to boot in legacy mode. Please be aware that building a Hackintosh from an OEM installer is NOT an easy thing to do. It takes a lot of patience and time, and a little know-how. You’ll need to familiarize yourself with boot args and get ready to do a lot of Googling. -v will be your best friend. You’ll need an OEM copy of Yosemite, and IMO, MyHack and MultiBeast are the best tools to get the job done. Most Asus models are Hackintoshable, but like I said earlier, the WiFi card and graphics are usually the issue. You can easily get another internal WiFi card from eBay for @ $10-just pay attention to whether your WiFi card is Mini-PCI or 1/2 Mini-PCI. Just take the back cover off to find out. Graphics are another animal altogether. If your graphics aren’t supported, you may as well forget it. A Hackintosh without QE/CI is garbage. With an i7, your PC will be able to run Yosemite, but the other components will tell if it can even run OSX at all. If I were you, I would try using a more stable version of OSX, like Mavericks, at least until Yosemite is in GM. There are distros out there, too, for Mountain Lion, Lion, Snow Leopard, and Leopard. My favorite of those is iAtkos. Look for iAtkos ML2 (Mountain Lion), and also Niresh has a distro of Mountain Lion that is pretty good. I’m not aware of any distros for Mavericks, I’ve only used MyHack with it. Thanks for the info I know I can install os 10.9 on it im getting help from an admin from multibeast forum so I hope I can succeed in doing it im stuck at the apple sign but I need to patch the kernel or something it will take a wile though since I don’t own a mac so im asking a friend it will be dope if I can get mavericks on it and if there is a stable Yosemite I will do that :p thanks dude.
No prob. For your first Hackintosh, I recommend that you stick to a distro. Either iAkos ML2 or Niresh 10.8.2.
Once you boot, the disk image already has a TON of configuration settings. Makes the install MUCH easier, plus, you can get acclimated to the basics…boot arguments, and what the configuration settings do, why you need them, and in the process learn a lot about your machine without just diving head first…just a recommendation.
I have installed Yosemite on my retina MacBook, and I am HIGHLY impressed. Not a big fan of the flat look, but the new features are GREAT!!! Safari looks and performs AWESOME-I really liked when Mountain Lion made the search and URL bar one and the same, and now to have it smaller and centered, it looks even better. Notification Center allows add-ons (which kicks a$$), and even though it’s a flat design, the UI is surprisingly crisp and defined, and the new font gives it an iOS feel (especially with Notification Center). You even have the option to send voice messages in iMessage. I noticed a power nap setting in energy saver, which is a pretty cool feature. The little dots under the apps to tell you what is running in the background in the dock are quite handy as well. The sidebar in finder is unbelievably crisp and defined.overflow is even revamped, and looks great!! The only problems I’ve had thus far are playing video, iMovie doesn’t work, and photo booth just has a question mark..Neither Quicktime or VLC play correctly, but then again..this is a VERY early version. Overall, these are some really impressive moves by Apple. I’m anxious to see what the GM looks like!!! The biggest problem I have now is going to work and having to use that ugly, slow, disaster-of-an-OS Windows computer!!!! OS X is like a breath of fresh air to use…even this early beta release is more stable and functional than ANY version of Windows I have ever used!!!
how about jailbreak tools like seas0n or pangu and evasi0n? they work or not ?
