The Pangu iOS 8 – 8.1 jailbreak that was released recently came with one big flaw; it did not install Cydia. The tool does indeed jailbreak any iOS device that can run iOS 8 or later. If you followed our tutorial on how to jailbreak iOS 8 – 8.1, then you’ll need to read on and learn how to install Cydia manually and install tweaks.
Saurik has now updated Cydia and you can follow this easy tutorial on how to install it manually on iOS 8. You will need Cydia to download and install tweaks. Follow our step-by-step guide and you will have Cydia installed on iOS 8 – 8.1.
Firstly, you will need to jailbreak your iOS device using the Pangu tool for Windows.
- Open the Pangu app on your Homescreen and install OpenSSH.
- Download CyberDuck SFTP client and install it on your Windows PC. You can also use other clients such as Filezilla or WinSCP.
- Find the WiFi IP address of your iOS device from Settings>WiFi>’i.’
- Open CyberDuck on your PC and input the WiFi IP address of your iOS device.
- Download these Cydia files and paste them into /private/var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall. There won’t be any Cydia folder, you will have to create it.
- Right click on the Cydia files, select File Permissions and change the value to 777.
- Reboot your device and you should have Cydia on your Homescreen.
- You can also use Cyberduck, then click on Go>Send Command and add this; dpkg –install cydia-lproj_1.1.12_iphoneos-arm.deb cydia_1.1.13_iphoneos-arm.deb
- Click Send. Then enter ‘restart’ in Send Command and click on Send again. Your iOS device should reboot.
If you didn’t understand any of this and don’t want to try this method, you should probably wait for a full working iOS 8 jailbreak. It should be available soon enough.
Let us know if this method worked for you!

Success! Managed to get the jailbreak running and Cydia active on ios 8.0 (iPhone 5C), the only part that I got stuck on is where you guys say that “Changing the values in File Permissions”, in Win SCP, it’s a different thing called ‘Octval’ or something. Other than that, no question about it, Pangu have shone.
jonas says
Hey! I open cyberduck and find my ip, but where in cyberduck do i paste this ip?????? and i have installed the open SSH from pangu app, but shouldnt there be an ssh app??

Worked for me! Got to jailbreak my iPad Air Wifi 32GB 8.1 and now I’m just looking for compatible cydia tweaks. Still debating on whether to jailbreak my iPhone 6 128GB 8.1 though. Probably when there are more compatible cydia tweaks already.:) thanks Pangu!

Can u help me?
i got a problem with ”
Right click on the Cydia files, select File Permissions and change the value to 777.” I dunno how to do that
ALEX7DX says
Hey Jonas, after copy/pasting the files into the correct place (I assume you’ve done that), if you’re using WinSCP or CyberDuck, they’re under ‘Properties’ or some other word. When you open it up, it’ll show you a lot of tick boxes like X, Y, Z etc. The one you want is VERY BOTTOM box, it’ll say something like 6144. Just change it to 777 and save/quit etc. Then reboot your device :-)
Joel Lefebvre says
I followed these steps, but once I reboot cydia is not anywhere. Help!
jack says

Alvareitor96 says
U have to separe the commands and install one by one, if that doesnt work, just ctrl+T and renew
Oguzhan says

jonas says
now cydia is here.. but when i click on cydia, my ipad does a fast reboot??? WHYYYY? :(
vedant says
unable to download cydia files
Freddie Sotelo says
I wouldn’t recommend doing the command , because whenn I sent the command it wouldn’t work. just drag and drop the .deb files in the directory “/var/root/Media/Cydia/Autoinstall” (without quotes) then just reboot 1-2 times. It worked on my 2nd reboot on a iPhone 5c running iOS 8.1. You would know when the startup logo is up for a couple minutes. At least for me. So just reboot. Don’t do the command.
Freddie Sotelo says
Make sure that the properties are set to 777. And then reboot 2-3 times.
Freddie Sotelo says
Jonas, don’t use the command. Just drag and drop in /var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall then change the properties to 777 for each .deb file then reboot 2-3 times then Cydia would pop up. It worked on my second reboot on my iPhone 5c(Green) running on iOS 8.1
Freddie Sotelo says
No, OpenSSH isn’t an app. And it also wouldn’t appear in the settings. It’s normal. ANd when you open up CyberDuck follow these steps
1. Click on Open Connection
2. When another window pops up set it SSh File Transfer Protocol(SFTP)
3. Use the IP found in Settings>Wifi>The “i” button and type it into the Hosts/Server Section
4. Put Username as “root” (without quotes)
5. Password as “alpine”. (without quotes and default password unless you may have changed it)
6. Set port as 22 or 21
7. Click connect
8. Once connected go to the Media Folder /var/root/Media
9. Create Folder named “Cydia” (without quotes)
10. Inside “Cydia” Folder make a new folder named “AutoInstall” (without quotes)
11. In “AutoInstall” Folder drag and drop the .deb files downloaded
12. After that right click each .deb file and click on Properties or Info.
13. Go to permission
14. Check all the boxes or just enter 777
15. After setting permissions at 777 for each .deb file , reboot your iDevice about 1-2 times
16. Cydia should popup if not keep rebooting
17. Open Cydia and it should say “Preparing FileSystem”
18. Then it should reboot by itself.
19. You can use Cydia now!
Disclaimer: None of the tweaks or maybe some will or won’t work with iOS 8 yet. Just wait until the Developers of the tweaks you desire make it compatible with iOS 8. Just wait until most tweaks are compatible.
Thank the saurik for being able to provide the cydia .deb files for iOS 8 and the Chinese Pangu team for creating the jailbreak on such quick time after the release of iOS8. Hope this helps.

Guys.
Jailbreak.
Install OPENSSH from the pangu app.
Instapp WINSCP on your windows computer.
Connect to your phone.
Transfer the files to / (root)
press CTRL – T (for terminal)
type: dpkg -i cydia-lproj_1.1.12_iphoneos-arm.deb
If it says Critical warning Pangu something is missing ignore it. And go on
type: dpkg -i cydia_1.1.13_iphoneos-arm.deb

Whenever I try and download an Appstore app or even update an app, it gets stuck at the part just before it starts installing. I’ve tried rebooting, respringing and no luck. I think it’s a permission problem. Any help would be great!
