Today we told you about BigBoss’s iOS 5 Semitethered Jailbreak for the iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. In case you did not read our last post on the iOS 5 Semitethered Jailbreak, basically, what a Semitethered Jailbreak means is that your tethered iDevice running iOS 5 will semi-function if it looses power. Meaning you can use essential apps such as the Phone.app and SMS.app if you loose power or your iDevice crashes while it is Jailbroken tethered.
In this how to guide from iJailbreak.com you will learn how to Jailbreak your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad on the iOS 5 firmware Semitethered using the Semitether Cydia package.
Jailbreak iOS 5 Semitethered
Step 1) – The first thing you will obviously need to do is Jailbreak your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad running the iOS 5 firmware. If you are not Jailbroken running the iOS 5 firmware you can follow one of our how to guides by clicking here.
Step 2) – When your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad is Jailbroken running the iOS 5 firmware using a tool like RedSn0w, you will need to launch Cydia from your SpringBoard.
Step 3) – After Cydia has launched go into the manage tab.
Then the Sources section.
Finally tap the Edit button in the top right corner of your iDevice’s screen.
You should now see an Add button appear in the top left corner of the screen. Tap the Add button and type in the following source:
http://thebigboss.org/semitether
After you have typed in the source shown above click the Add Source Button and the source will begin installing to your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
Step 4) – Now that the source has been added go into the source by tapping on it and finally tap the SemiTether Cydia package.
Step 5) –Install the SemiTether Cydia package to your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad and re-boot your iDevice.
Step 6) – As you have a tethered Jailbreak you will need to re-boot your iDevice using RedSn0w. Download RedSn0w0.9.9b6 or higher from the iJailbreak Downloads Section and then launch RedSn0w.
Step 7) – With RedSn0w up and running click the Extras button followed by the Just boot button.
You will now need to follow the DFU mode instructions and your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad will boot into a Semitethered state.
Congratulations! You have just Jailbroken your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad running the iOS 5 firmware Semitethered. Let us know if you have any questions or thoughts in the comments section below…

If I do get this semitethered now, will I be able to get the untethered jailbreak on the very same device?
Also, with the semitethering, will I be able to unlock a 3GS? Will I be required to mess with the model firmware to unlock it with the semitethering?
Red says
it does not work for me. I followed the steps and I ended up on the black respring screen in the last step, To get out of it I had to simply reboot it again with the redsnow
Edwin Leung says
Will I be able to unlock it though? Would I need to mess around with the model firmware?
Nic says
you can always restore your phone and jailbreak using any other method at a later time..
Just backup before you do so

I HQAVE IPOD TOUCH4G I WANT TO SYNC GAMES THROUGH ITUNES BUT IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO SYNC AFTER JAILBREAKING AND SEMITETHERING. AFTER JAILBREAKING IT SHOWS AN ERROR “FAILED TO TRANSFER” AND AFTER SEMI TETHERING THERE IS NO ERROR AND THERE IS NO TRANSFER TOO…
WHENEVER I OPEN CYDEIA IT SHOWS ME TO SEMI TETHER MY IPOD AND AFTER DOING THAT THING ALSO IT ALWAYS DISPLAYS ME THE SAME… TELL ME THE SOLUTION REGARDING THIS. AND HOW WOULD I COME TO KNOW THAT I SUCCESSFULLY SEMI TETHERED MY IPOD?
I DID EVERYTHING WHICH THESE STEPS ARE SUGGESTING TO DO
