Way back when we first got the official announcement that the iPhone 4 was coming, and Steve Jobs said FaceTime would only work over WiFi, I immediately thought, “Not for long! :)”. (Yes, I think in emoticons.). I was sure that as soon as we could jailbreak the iPhone 4, we would have FaceTime over 3G. Well, that day has arrived. The iPhone 4 has been jailbroken with the awesome new jailbreak from comex, ‘Star’, via www.JailbreakMe.com. Just one day after that, we had an update to My3G, that allows us to make FaceTime calls over 3G.
Here’s our video demo of FaceTime over 3G. We were able to receive and place calls, and the video is pretty smooth throughout the call. We did notice a weird glitch, or maybe a coincidence: when we tried to increase the volume, on my end, we lost the FaceTime call. Not sure if this has something to do with having biteSMS installed, or not. I’m sure we’ll see improvements to this over time.
So, how do you get FaceTime to work over 3G? You need to jailbreak your iPhone 4. It is really easy right now, with www.JailbreakMe.com. Then you need to get My3G from Rock or Cydia. There is a free, limited trial, but it’s only $3.99 to buy it. There is no other configuring the app, or anything. It just works. Have fun!

The unfortunate thing is if you're both on 3G using FaceTime it lags like hell. Especially if one of you antenna gates.
