Occasionally at iJailbreak we come across a great idea for a Cydia tweak that, for whatever reason, doesn’t quite work in the initial release. In terms of tweaks that we’d like to see functioning, a new release called Banner Size on one we’d like to see working properly.
We’ve seen other notification banner tweaks in the past, but what made Banner Size stand out is the breadth of features and its low price (free). Banner Size features 15 different pre-set banners, including half banners, banners that only feature icons, iPad-style banners, and random size settings. There are also sliders which can be set to change the sie from the right, left, and middle.
So what prevents this tweak from shining? With the initial 1.0 release, Banner Size does not work on my iPad or iPhone 4 in iOS 5. Sometimes notification banners were suppressed, while other times they displayed but were buggy, with graphical glitches and a lack of text on every setting. As this is a critical bug, we can’t recommend Banner Size in its current state. You can find Banner Size in the BigBoss repository, but you may prefer to wait for an update.
If you’re looking for tweaks to notification banner size that currently work, check out SmallBanners (Free, works great) and Bulletin Pro ($0.99). Just keep in mind, if you plan on switching to iOS 6, that not all tweaks supported by iOS 5 will automatically cross over to the new firmware.
