Facebook is a convenient way to stay in touch with new acquaintances, but finding people on Facebook could always be easier. FacebookNC is a search widget for Notification Center that removes more friction when adding people on Facebook. Instead of firing up the Facebook app and fiddling with the app’s simplified search function, FacebookNC lets you pull down the notification pane and instantly transfers you to a Facebook search in your browser.
I’m not sure if its to the plugin’s benefit or detriment that the searches are plugged into ““. Certainly its the easiest method to implement a search, but it would look more polished if the FacebookNC widget launched the actual Facebook app. In terms of FacebookNC’s utility, if you are logged into Facebook on your browser anyway then it’s not a big deal. I find that the search through Facebook’s website is more flexible than the search through the apps, as I then can set the search filters for people, pages, places, groups, and so on.
FacebookNC is functional, but also barebones. To input a search, just press on the writing says Search here! In addition to style, if the developers want to expand the functionality of FacebookNC, they could add in options for search filters (such as “only search people”).
FacebookNC is a free tweak and is available in the ModMyi repository on Cydia. As this is a Notification Center widget, you will have to enable it through Settings -> Notifications. Keep in mind that you may have to respring before FacebookNC will show up on the list in Notifications.
Would you use FacebookNC to find Facebook contacts faster or is the use of a URL search a deal breaker? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
