I recently wanted to trick my friends into thinking that I had iOS 6 installed on my iOS device. I knew this was definitely possible, but I had to find the correct plist file somewhere on my iOS device’s filesystem. After looking into directories where it would probably be, I finally found it! So here is the tutorial on how to make it look like you are running a different version of iOS, in my case iOS 6.
Make It Look Like You Are Running iOS 6
Before we start this how to guide please take a look at what you will need:
- iFile (any app/tweak like iFile will do)
Step 1: The first thing you will need to do is go into iFile and enter the following directory:
/System/Library/CoreServices/
Step 2: Scroll down to the bottom and you should see SystemVersion.plist (Not SystemVersion.plist%).
Step 3: Open that plist file using property list viewer.
Step 4: You should see 4 lines, open the last one (ProductVersion).
Step 5: Change the version of iOS to whatever you want (in my case from 5.1 to 6.0).
That is it. You have just “changed” which version of iOS you are running on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. Have fun and please leave any questions or thoughts in the comments section.

Seems almost pointless unless you like to show off your jailbroken phone to people (Hey, look at my phone! It looks different to you’re phone). But its cool to know how to change stuff on the phone, so thanks!

Is this what people do to impress their friends? Change the version number in your phone and show it off?
Shurjoali says
it doesnt change the features, it only makes all the apps think youre running the new version. you will still have physical dependency issues

Senseless

What a complete and utter waste of time, you have to be 1 pretty sad goon to want to try and fool your uneducated friends that you were running a different version of iOS.

I would like to know if same thing can be done to the base band info.
Aba says
If either of you were smart enough to make a backup of the plist and use a proper editor, there is no risk of brick. Not to mention you can’t ‘brick’ an iPhone unless you’re doing some hardware flashing. Editing a simple system plist does not brick your phone

This works. I have an iPhone 4s, 5.0 FW, and it’s jailbroken. I used a iFile (dl’ed from Cydia) to find the file and change it. I dl’ed Bastion which was originally incompatible with my FW (I tried several times before). I even changed it back to my original 5.0 FW after the install and the game still worked. Although it looked like my App Store was glitched, not showing available updates or any apps in the store… Luckily that got fixed after trying to use the “Update All” option and a reboot after the FW “change”. Anyway, hope this helps somebody.

I is a bit daft just for that reason, but great for apps if you have a shitty old ios.

I tested it says
If you running iOS 4.3.3, don’t change it because it will make app store not working.

Warning !!!! revert changes back before reboot/respring !!! if u accidentally did that then the only way to fix it is to manually edit the .plist file through stfp or ssh !!
