Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is the smoothest OS to date. Galaxy S2 users can enjoy Android 4.1 Jelly Bean through the ReVolt JB custom ROM. The credit goes to XDA Developers’ member johnhany97. The ROM is based on CynaogenMod 10 and AOKP. This ROM brings an OTA Update Center application, working maps and much more to the device. However, there is more than likely to be a few bugs as it’s not the official firmware update from Samsung.
The instructions for this guide will work on the GT-i9100 model of the Samsung Galaxy S2. They may lead to undesired results on other models and devices. Reading the guide over twice would be a wise thing to do before actually trying the instructions. You should disable any security software that have a chance of interfering with the process, and backup all the personal data on the device. You’re going to follow the guide at your own risk, as iJailbreak won’t take responsibility for any damages if something goes wrong with the device.
Instructions To Install ReVolt Jelly Bean ROM On Samsung Galaxy S II GT-i9100
Step 1: ClockworkMod Recovery should be installed on your handset. You can follow our previous tutorial to learn how to do this (link). This step can be ignored if ClockworkMod Recovery is already installed.
Step 2: Download the ReVolt Jelly Bean ROM (link).
Step 3: Copy the file downloaded in the above step to the internal SD card of the device.
Step 4: Power off the handset and press and hold the Volume, Power and Home buttons to boot into ClockworkMod Recovery. You should now be able to navigate using the Volume keys and select an option using the Power button.
Step 5: The existing ROM should be backed up, as the new ROM may not turn out to be viable for you. To do this, create a Nandroid Backup by selecting Backup and Restore > Backup.
Step 6: Perform a full wipe from the main menu. Select wipe data/factory reset and confirm the action on the screen that appears. Now select wipe cache partition and confirm the action. Finally head over to the main menu and select ‘Advanced’ and then select wipe Dalvik cache to complete the full wipe process.
Step 7: Go back to the main menu and select install zip from SD card > choose ZIP from SD card. Search for the downloaded ROM ‘.zip’ file and confirm the action on the screen. Now select ‘Go Back’ > ‘Reboot System Now’.
