After announcing the new iPad Air 2 with A8X processor and TouchID, Apple also gave the iPad mini some love, which lasted about 10 seconds. The iPad mini 3 got a few seconds of stage time and maybe a slide or two showing what’s not new.
Apple didn’t update the iPad mini 3 or so it looks like. All that’s new, as of now, is the addition of Touch ID on the iPad mini 3. It’s got the same 7.9-inch Retina display, 5 megapixel camera and most likely the same hardware. No other information about this mini update was shared on stage.
Oh, there’s also a faster WiFi chip and it comes in Gold. The 16GB WiFi only model will cost you $399, whereas the WiFi+Cellular 16GB model will cost you $529.
Apple’s website does show that the iPad mini 3 gets no hardware updates other than the WiFi chip and Touch ID home button. It’s available for pre-order tomorrow and ships October 24th.
