Not too long ago AT&T changed their policy on unlocking iPhones due to increased pressure from the public and even Apple themselves. It looks like one of the largest cellular providers in Canada, Telus is also following a similar path as starting June 1st, 2012 owners of a Telus iPhone can become unlocked for a price of $50.
There are some requirements however, that include your iPhone needing to operate on the Telus HSPA network, having to be registered for a postpaid account with Telus for at least 90 days, be in good standing and have the last three consecutive bills paid in full. As long as you meet the general requirements and have $50 to spend you can easily unlock your iPhone that is currently locked to Telus by following the steps outlined below.
How To Unlock Telus iPhone
Step 1) – The very first thing you will need to do is contact Client Care to request your iPhone to be unlocked.
Step 2) – Once you have contacted client care and scheduled your iPhone to be unlocked the client care representative will complete the stepson necessary to unlock your iPhone for you.
Step 3) – Next you will simply need to connect your iPhone to iTunes and wait for the message “Unlock Complete. Congratulations, your iPhone has been unlocked. To set up and sync this iPhone, click Continue“. Please keep in mind that an Internet connection is required in order for iTunes to unlock your device.

Hello! My iPhone 4 wasn’t unlocked using the methods above. Do I have to update to the newest firmware in order for the unlock to take place? It’s running 5.0.1 right now
My mother’s iPhone 4S was successfully unlocked and it’s running the newest 5.1.1 ios.

Wonder if Bell and Rogers and Fido will do the same ?

Rogers already does this, it is quite a process though being bounced from place to place and waiting on hold forever.
