The developer of TinyUmbrella, NotCom has released a new tool today that will aid in downgrading the iPad 2 and iPhone 4 back to the iOS 4.3.3 firmware or a firmware of your choice. This new tool is called TinyCFW, and the reason NotCom developed it is because he had a friend who wanted to downgrade his iPad 2 from running iOS 5.0 to the iOS 4.3.3 firmware for an Untethered Jailbreak.
If you are interested in using the TinyCFW tool you will be glad to know that the only thing you have to have present with you is the SHSH blobs for the firmware that you want to downgrade to. As long as you have this you can successfully downgrade your iPad 2 or iPhone 4 from the iOS 5.0/iOS 5.0.1 firmware to a firmware version that you have saved SHSH blobs for.
NotCom has made it clear that this is not the TinyPwn tool he has been talking about releasing for some time now. He goes into outlining exactly what this tool is in the blog post associated with TinyCFW.
What TinyCFW is:
- It will modify an existing ipsw for an ipad2 gsm/cdma or iphone4 gsm/cdma
- It WILL modify the ipsw TO UPDATE YOUR BASEBAND TO THE LATEST!
- It will create an ipsw that you can use with TinyUmbrella AND iTunes to restore to a version of iOS that you have SHSHs for.
- It is primarily for iPad2 with a baseband OR iPhone 4.
What TinyCFW is NOT:
- A jailbreak
- An unlock
- A tool to protect your baseband.
- A tool that will restore your device to any firmware
- A tool for use with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPad, or iPhone 4S
We will look into creating a How To guide for using TinyCFW in the near future. In the mean time, NotCom has provided instructions on using TinyCFW that you can take a look at below:
The usage is simple. Start the application (double click on the jar or run the .exe file). You must have java and at least 2.5gb ram. (Yes I know. It’s a lot. Get over it. I didn’t write this to be massively distributed. I wrote this for a friend and am now just sharing it with everyone). Once the window comes up, click the top button and choose an ipsw for which you have SHSHs for. The app will scan it and tell you the firmware and baseband versions in the ipsw you selected and the firmware and baseband versions that will be in the target ipsw when you click the second button. If you’re ready, click ‘Save Target IPSW’. This will take a minute or two and when it is finished, you will have a file named:
your original ipsw name.bbupdate.ipsw.
If you would like to download TinyCFW for both Mac OS X and Windows you can do so by visiting the iJailbreak Downloads Section.
Please leave any questions or thoughts about TinyCFW in the comments section.

For those using yesterday’s TinyCFW release to downgrade iPad2 to 4.3.3 and are running into issues with the executable there is a fix you can try below. For me I got the error ” jvm could not start-the maximum heap size (-Xms) might be too large or a antivirus is blocking the execution.” SFor those using yesterday’s TinyCFW release to downgrade iPad2 to 4.3.3 and are running into issues with the executable there is a fix you can try below. For me I got the error ” jvm could not start-the maximum heap size (-Xms) might be too large or a antivirus is blocking the execution.” Since i didn’t have a firewall or anti-virus running I knew that wasn’t the problem. Below you can find the fix I used:
Start – Control Panel – System – Advanced system settingsAdvanced (tab) and click on “Environment Variables”Under “User variables..” click on “New”Then add :For Variable name = _JAVA_OPTIONSFor Variable value = -Xmx1g

I downloaded the fixed firmware from the link below. However, now I’m stuck on the iTunes restore process: after putting in DFU and start the restore with shift+restore, the iPad has a black screen with the apple and a half loaded progress bar. Any tips?
