This evening we at iJailbreak have come across something very interesting. Currently the domain name JailbreakMe.com is on GoDaddy Domain Auctions for a price of $2,400. If you are involved in the jailbreaking community you will realize that JailbreakMe.com was the website associated with some of the first Userland Jailbreaks. This is why, with the iPad 2 Untethered Jailbreak right around the corner, it intrigues me why the domain would be on auction.
Could this be because of today’s ordeal with the iPad 2 Untethered Jailbreak leak?
As the domain name was privately registered we cannot find out who is currently the owner of the domain name JailbreakMe.com. Thus, we cannot point fingers to who is actually selling the domain name.
We would like to hear your thoughts on why the domain name is currently being sold in the comments section below.
Update #1: A recent tweet from Comex confirms that he doesn’t own JailbreakMe.com.
Update #2: JailbreakMe 3.0 has just been released!
Update #3: A complete tutorial on how to jailbreak iOS 4.3 – 4.3.3 on iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch.

This is so disappointing :( was looking forward to the jailbreak so badly and was excited to hear that its around the corner and now all this happening :( my poor iPad 2!!!
Wish we can take a leak on the person who leaked the jailbreak ffs…

If the domain is for sale then how come the site is still fully operational? Doesn’t make sense.

I still Think the jailbreak is comming out.
You see, the previous userland jailbreak was named JailbreakME. That one supported different devices.
Now, it would be a little cheesy to use such an open-wide name that only supports the Apple iPad 2. Could be that he would rename it, and As far As i know, hé hasnt mentioned the specific name JailbreakME (correct mé if i am wrong). And this is just my opinion.

Very Strange indeed. I haven’t a clue either Alex. It is definitely in GoDaddy Auctions, however, so either the owner has it in there by mistake or they are actually going to sell it to the highest bidder.

It does? The domain hasn’t been sold yet (it seems), so the owner can still do what he wants with it.
@AbdulHakim There’s still no reason to sell the domain. They’ve been keeping it since the 1.x days, and I think it would be clever to keep it for future userland jailbreaks.

For money.. Comex is most likely still working on a jailbreak, however no one knows for sure. The owner or the domain could possibly see the leak of the jailbreakme 3.0 as being a breaking point for comex. He may think that comex will not come out with any more jailbreaks and if he waits any longer the domain name will become less valuable.
Similarly to trading stock, this may simply be a business strategy he is attempting to employ.
