As speculated and leaked, Apple has taken wraps off the brand new iPad Air 2, which is thinner than its predecessor. The event is currently ongoing at Apple’s Town Hall Campus in Cupertino, California.
The iPad Air 2, which was leaked in its full glory by Apple, has now been made official. It comes with an improved Retina display that is 56 percent less reflective, Apple A8X processor coupled with the M8 motion co-processor. No other hardware specs were revealed except that its CPU is 40 times faster and the GPU about 2.5x faster than the iPad Air. The A8X uses the same 2nd gen 64 bit architecture as the iPhone 6/6 Plus, but has 3 billion transistors.
Apple is calling it the worlds thinnest tablet and it probably is thanks to its 6.1 mm thickness. The camera on the iPad Air 2 is an 8 MP iSight camera with 1.12 micron pixels and f/2.4 aperture. It’ll let you record 1080p HD videos and also take 43 megapixel panoramas. Other features include, Burst Mode, Slo-Mo, Timelapse and HDR video.
The front FaceTime HD camera with an f/2.2 aperture, has a mode called Burst Selfies, for that perfect selfie that you will take using your iPad. It also takes HDR photos and videos.
Nothing phenomenal in the camera section then. Also, the iPad Air 2 does get, as predicted, the Touch ID, which works exactly like how it works on the iPhones.
The new iPad Air 2 comes with faster WiFi, 20 LTE bands and supports Apple Pay. You cannot however use it to pay at retailers as it doesn’t come with NFC.
Oh and it comes in Gold! You will be able to pre-order the iPad Air 2 tomorrow and it starts at $499 for the 16GB WiFi only version. iPad Air 2 WiFi + Cellular 16GB will cost you $629. Other colors include Space Gray and Silver, with no 32GB storage option. Apple will start shipping the new iPad Air 2 on October 24th. So there you go, the new iPad Air 2; thinner and faster!
